Hole # 11

The Walpapi were a Paiute Band that fished for Salmon in this region of the Snake River Country. In the summer the Walpapi migrated to this area from Eastern Oregon. Walpapi fishing artifacts have been found in the spring fed estuaries of the Snake River Canyon north of Buhl, Salmon Falls Creek west of Buhl, and on Browns Bench south of Buhl. The Walpapi were one of two Paute bands, the other being the Yahuskin, who were referred to as the Snake Indians from which the Snake River derives its name.
