Otis and Molly Syster, who owned much of the land around Clear Lake, started a commercialfrog farm at the location of Number 4 green in the early 1950s. The original frogs used in the business hampered the venture because they were too small to produce suitable frog meat.In 1934, responding to the challenge, the Systers imported larger breeding stock from Hagerman, ldaho to upgrade the quality and size of their herd.When it became increasingly difficult to keep the frogs penned up in the pond, the venture was abandoned in the late 1930s and the frogs were left to return to their native habitat.
